The Carpet and Rug Institute explains that one of the most important questions you should ask before Hiring a Carpet Cleaning Professional is: “Do you vacuum before deep cleaning the carpet?” The CRI adds: “The answer should be yes.” Yes, that’s right, professional carpet cleaners always pre-vacuum before they make the carpet wet. How many carpet cleaners pre-vacuum? Almost none. We will back to that in a minute. But, that could be why many feel it’s worth getting their carpets professionally cleaned anymore. If a professional does not show up and do a professional job, then why bother.
Wait a Minute, Does Pre-Vacuuming Really Make a Difference?
Yes, it does. Vacuuming before wet cleaning makes a big difference in the result. The Carpet and Rug Institute uses technology from NASA (no, I am not kidding, they do!) to prove this. But really, you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to understand why this is so. As soon as you add moisture, dry soil turns to mud. Gravity pulls that mud into the backing. After cleaning, that mud wicks back up to the surface. That is why your carpet will look dingy after a while. The longer the carpet takes to dry, the more dirty water is left behind.
Even if the customer pre-vacuumed right before we arrived, we still need to vacuum. It is the essential first step in professional cleaning. I often get asked by customers, what is the best vacuum to purchase. The answer is simple. The best vacuum is the one you will use. Regular vacuuming is far better than infrequent vacuuming with a vacuum that is too heavy or hard to use.
